The Seven Fabulous Wonders series grew out of my interest in ancient myths and legends and the creatures that inhabit them. Rather than retell the familiar tales, I wanted to explore what happens when legend meets history, and especially the gaps in-between that nobody knows very much about.
These books mix historical adventure and magic, bringing to life creatures such as the dragons of Babylon, the legendary chimera, and the fierce gryphon with its yellow glare. Lurking in their pages you will also find strange gods and ancient curses, explore fantastic monuments like the pyramids of Egypt, and meet young heroes and heroines who lived in a time when magic and reality were closer than they are today.
Each book is a complete story with different characters, featuring a different "wonder" of the ancient world, so you can read them in any order you like. All seven are suitable for any reader who likes adventure and magic, but some have heroes and others heroines so you might like to start with the ones suggested below. They were the most fantastic monuments that existed when the ancient Greeks started exploring the world and making a list of "must see" places, rather like a classical tourist brochure. The Greeks only travelled as far as Egypt and Persia (modern Iran) so didn't know about America or any other countries across the ocean, and of course they put several of their own local monuments on the list... in those days the Greek empire included modern Turkey. Only one of the Seven Wonders is still standing today, the most ancient of all. Can you guess which one? You can find out more about the history behind the books by following these links.
